Congressmen urge Biden to include monthly stimulus checks in relief plan for COVID

Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar, along with more than 50 progressive lawmakers in the House of Representatives, sent a letter to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, asking them to include monthly incentive checks in COVID’s new plan. 19.

In the letter published by Politico, Omar says that the $ 1.9 trillion plan presented by Biden, which includes an extensive vaccination plan, must also have recurring checks as “one is not enough.”

The letter does not specify how much they would look for this monthly check, however, details the benefits this would have for the economy’s recovery.

According to the representative and co-signers of the petition, the checks should go to immigrant workers, refugees, adults, dependents who are elderly and those over 16 who are still claiming.

The strategy would be to create automatic payments through the IRS for those households that are eligible.

“Many families can’t wait six months between payments,” the letter reads.

The stimulus package proposed by Biden includes a third check of $ 1,400 that will complete the two thousand dollars of aid that the president wants to bring promptly to the citizenry.

However, the distribution of this money has not yet been approved and it is unclear whether the requirements for receiving it are the same.

Meanwhile, according to Forbes, Democrats are preparing to present a budget reconciliation process so they can approve the third check without the need for Republican support.
