A new web series led by the popular YouTube personality, Jovenshire, offers a unique twist Dungeons and dragons. Things of legends is a new 6-part web series that combines Dungeons and dragons game with puppets. The new series stars Jovenshire as Dungeon Master for a game with Lisa Foiles, Brandon Rogers, Shanna Malcolm and Lasercorn. While “Let’s Play” D&D shows have grown in popularity in recent years, Things of legends it also uses cane-style puppets (similar to Muppets) made by Las Vegas-based DLUX Puppets to depict various battle scenes and role-playing games. Jovenshire described the new series as Dungeons and dragons they meet Drunk story, but with puppets instead of actors.

“I’m a big fan of puppets,” Jovenshire told ComicBook.com when asked about the decision to bring puppets to the D&D table. “Like many of us, I grew up with them. We were banging around some ideas to help you in the narrative aspect of Dungeons and dragons and we were talking about puppets. Honestly, the question is why not the puppets? “
“For me, I’ve worked on some animation projects,” Jovenshire continued. “And what I like about these is when you work with cartoons, your imagination is as big as you can grab and you can do anything you can draw. But sometimes with cartoons, you lose that physical comedy, you lose that look. “And that was really important to me. And with the puppets, you get it. You get that buffet humor, you have that tongue in your cheek, the Three Stooges comedy, all being very lively. And when you have something so wild.” like Dungeons & Dragons, and you want to reach out to all these different crazy concepts and monsters and turn them into puppets. “

The show includes a mix of live action games and scenes represented by puppets. Whenever the game enters combat or dialogue, Things of legends cut out the puppets from the show depicting the scenes as the game continues. To bring this unique mix to life, Jovenshire explained that the show went through two separate production rounds: one in which the players of a closed set participated and then a second shoot in which the puppeteers representing the scenes played by the players.
Originally, Jovenshire pitched Things of legends as a potential project involving Magic: the encounter, the popular trading card game produced by D&D maker Wizards of the Coast. “[Wizards] had a green light program to promote Magic: the encounter, and were looking for different content creators to make products larger than the lifespan to drive the game, “Jovenshire said.” Magic fan, I presented this idea to present the D&D expansions that appear in it Magic: the encounter mons. They loved the idea, but they’re like, ‘Wait a second. In fact, this could work properly for D&D, and then we started studying a bigger concept. “

As Jovenshire works with Wizards of the Coast, he was able to use official monsters from the Monster Handbook and set up the game in Forgotten Realms, the main settings for Forgotten Realms Dungeons and dragons. When asked if he really had puppets made from iconic D&D monsters, Jovenshire mentioned that it was one of his favorite parts of show planning. “I have classic D&D monster puppets,” Jovenshire confirmed. “My favorite part about pre – producing this was literally flipping through the Monster Handbook and thinking to myself, “What will look great as a puppet?” I don’t want to spoil who our big evil is in the end, but the advantage of working Dungeons and dragons is able to use these classic monsters and give them a whole new look and feel. So there will be some deep cuts where other DMs will be looking and thinking, “Oh yeah. I should use one of these creatures. We haven’t done any of it in a long time.
Although Things of legends will feature iconic D&D monsters, it won’t be a series just for proven D&D fans. Each episode will only last 30 minutes to allow for optimal viewing time. “My big goal when it comes to doing role-playing shows is to be able to attract this new audience,” Jovenshire said. “Especially in the last two years, I think D&D has become even more popular with new fans. But not all of these fans can jump on a three-hour podcast or a 50-episode show. So I wanted to do something it was digestible.for new fans, but it also had deep cuts and was entertaining for people who have been playing for 30 years or so.So the way we tell our stories and use the puppets are a way to keep the focus on the show and keep joking. “
Things of legends will premiere on Jovenshire’s YouTube channel on Tuesday 2 February.
