Washington State Police, which responded to a routine report of a suspicious vehicle, found a scene Thursday morning that came straight from a horror movie: the car was filled with dismembered body parts and “meat-like” substances, authorities said.
The 2014 Honda Accord abandoned in the small town of Otello might not have caught the attention of passers-by had it not been for a disturbing detail: it had blood smeared on its hood.
“After a new investigation inside the vehicle, a dead matter was discovered,” a press release from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said.
From there, things quickly went down when what appeared to be “flesh” was found in the back seat, along with a human head sitting in the back panel, court documents indicate.
Police soon discovered more body parts in the trunk of the vehicle. The limbs are believed to belong to two different people.
“At this time the victims have not been positively identified due to the scope of the body,” Sheriff Dale Wagner said in a press release Friday.
A 28-year-old man identified as Mauricio Nava-Garibay is being held on suspicion of murder after he was reportedly seen walking away from the horrific crime scene. He reportedly told investigators he had entered into an altercation with his girlfriend, Dora Martinez, at his home before luring her into a garage on the pretext of having a “gift” to give her. He then stabbed her several times in the neck and torso, punched her in the face and drowned her with an extensible cable, according to detectives, according to the local newspaper KIMA-TV.
Another woman identified as Guadalupe Martinez is said to have entered the garage at the time, when Nava-Garibay pushed her to the concrete floor and stabbed her in the neck, according to several reports.
No further details were obtained about the relationship of the two women with the suspect.
“Research like this is very difficult and delicate. We appreciate any cooperation from our community, ”said Wagner.
