DETROIT – After state officials meet with Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, Wayne County will receive 8,375 first doses of COVID-19 vaccine next week from the state, up from 4,350 doses which Wayne County received this week.
However, the supply remains insufficient to expedite the vaccinations of health care providers, educators and other ongoing high-priority essential workers.

“I strive to ensure that Wayne County receives the number of doses it needs based on a fair and equitable formula that reflects our population, the highest social vulnerability of many of our residents, and our most diverse county status of Michigan, ”Evans said. “I appreciate the state working to distribute a very limited supply of vaccines across the state, but I think more needs to be done to ensure a reliable and equitable supply.”

Evans said he met with state officials in Lansing Thursday because the Wayne County Public Health Division would have received fewer vaccines than the health departments of other less populated counties.
The disparity in vaccine allocation has slowed Wayne County’s efforts to vaccinate high-priority health care providers, educators and other essential workers under the state’s Phase 1A and Phase 1B distribution plan, he said. said Evans.
Under an agreement between Wayne County and local health systems, county residents age 65 and older are vaccinated using these health systems.
“I will continue to put pressure on the state of Michigan until the Wayne County Public Health Division receives the amount of vaccine needed to meet the needs of its residents,” Evans said.
