DETROIT – A winter weather advice is in effect in Lenawee, Monroe, Washtenaw and Wayne counties from 12pm until 10pm on Sunday.
Welcome to Saturday evening, Motown.
Set up snow throwers or snowmen for the snow shovel. The snow is on its way before the weekend is over. Tonight it stays dry and cold. Tonight, the weather remains well below freezing temperature throughout the region. The snow arrives shortly after midnight. Roads and sidewalks become more treacherous on Sundays, with some harder snow during breakfast.
Saturday evening will be cloudy and cold with constant temperatures in the 20s. Upcoming snowstorms will prepare for the southwest. The first flakes begin to fall south of I-94, in Lenawee and Monroe counties, at 10 p.m.
Saturday night will be snowy in Detroit and the rest of southeast Michigan shortly after midnight and through Sunday morning. The night lows will be in the mid-20s.
Announcements
Snow will migrate from south to north overnight. After our southern area, Detroit and Ann Arbor roads become more slippery, and areas north of Eight Mile Road become more snowy during Sunday morning. The cities of Flint, Lapeer and Port Huron will snow on Sunday for breakfast.
Sunday will be snowy and cold. The snow will fall harder, Sunday morning. Light to moderate snow will fall steadily on Sunday morning and most of the afternoon. The snow gets a little more scattered in the afternoon and Sunday afternoon. The maximums will be below 30 years.
Sunday night it gets less snowy, but it’s still cold, so the roads are still treacherous. Then, the north wind will start due to the counterclockwise circulation through the low pressure zone. The wind from Lake Huron, mostly liquid, will produce snow showers and lake-effect snowfalls on Monday.
Accumulations will be greater when the snow first begins. Neighborhoods south of I-94 will receive four to six inches of snow; isolates stains larger than six inches. From I-94 (south) and M-59 (north), Detroit, Westland, Ann Arbor to Howell, Pontiac, Shelby Township and Mt. Clemens will get two or four inches. One to three inches of snow will fall north of the M-59.
Announcements
Highs will be around 30 degrees Monday afternoon, as lake-effect snow adds an extra one or three inches of snow to most of the area.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays will be sunnier and give Detroiters time to clean up and recover. Remember not to put too much effort into it. Take a break and take frequent breaks while removing snow and ice. The highs will be in the low 30s, in the middle of the week, with mostly partly sunny skies.
