Didi Gregorius and Phillies agree to a two-year, $ 28 million contract

Didi Gregorius will return to the Philadelphia Phillies after free agent shortstop reached a two-year, $ 28 million contract with the team, a source told ESPN on Saturday.

Gregorius, who turns 31 on Feb. 18, proved to be a big bargain in 2020 for the Phillies, who signed the free agent with a one-year, $ 14 million contract last low season. He recovered from a 2019 season full of injuries with the New York Yankees beating 284 with 10 homers, 40 RBIs and 34 RBIs, and an OPS of 827, for the Phillies during the season shortened by the pandemic.

Gregorius wasted a lot of time with the Yankees in 2019 when he recovered from Tommy John surgery, in which he had to repair an elbow ligament that was torn during the 2018 SDLA against Boston. He ended up beating 238 with 16 homers and 61 RBIs in 2019.

For the past five seasons, Gregorius is tied for fourth with Xander Bogaerts among all Major League home run torpedo riders (98), just behind Trevor Story (134), Francisco Lindor (126) and Javier Báez (108) . It is also fifth in boosted racing (344), ninth in slugging percentage (469, with a minimum of 150 games) and ninth in extra-base (215) in that same lapse.

Gregorius has provided a Golden Glove caliber defense throughout his career, and his 978 fielding percentage in his career is the fifth best among players with at least 800 games played in the position since of 2012.

Overall, Gregorius has a batting average of 265 with 120 homers, 457 RBIs and an OPS of 748 in nine seasons with the Reds, Diamondbacks, Yankees and Phillies.

The Athletic portal reported for the first time on Gregorius’ dealings with the Philistines.
