With three games on the opening date, this Sunday starts version 63 of the Caribbean Series, which will be hosted by the Teodoro Mariscal de Mazatlán-Mexico.
The Cibaeñas Eagles for the Dominican Republic; the Caribbean of Anzoátegui by Venezuela; Alligators of Barranquilla by Colombia; Creoles of Caguas for Puerto Rico and the Federals of Chiriquí for Panama, meet from this Sunday, January 31 to February 6 at the Teodoro Mariscal Stadium in Mazatlán, for the celebration of the Caribbean classic.
On the opening day, 12:30 Dominican Republic time, Panama against Venezuela. Harold Arauz (d), against David Martínez (d), are the pitchers called up for the match.
In the second hour the Dominicans receive in Puerto Rico. Luis Medina and Carlos Martínez are the pitchers for this match, which will be at 6:00 pm.
After the opening ceremony, at the end of the second game, closing the day the locals, Mexico visit Colombia, which pits David Holmberg.
The Dominican crowns
The latest version of the Caribbean Series in 2020, was won by Dominicana, represented by the bulls of the East, to add 20 sceptres, and strengthen the Creole leadership in the ball of the Caribbean.
Of the 20 Quisqueyanas crowns, 10 correspond to the Tigers of the Lyceum, five to the Eagles, four to the Lions of the Chosen one and one to the bovines.
The first scepter was brought home by the Licey in 1971, Under the direction of Manuel Mota, achieved unbeaten (6-0), in Sant Joan; 1973, Licey in Caracas / Venezuela (5-1), directed by Tom Lasorda; 1977, Licey in Caracas / Venezuela (6-0), Bob Rogers as manager and 1980, Licey in Santo Domingo, (6-0), with De l’Crandall as helmsman.
In 1985, the felines were again crowned in Mazatlán (5-1), under the guidance of Terrey Collins; the first for the Chosen One comes in 1988, Phil Regan Pilotant (4-2) in Santo Domingo; repeat in Miami in 1990, (5-1), with Felipe Rojas Alou directing; on that same stage the following year, the Tigers won 5-0, with John Roseboro at the helm.
The Blues won again in Puerto La Cruz / Venezuela 5-1 in 1994, with Casey Parson in charge; Águiles Cibaeñas, 1997, (4-2), with Mike Quade in the lead and repeat (6-0) in 1998 in Puerto La Cruz with Tony Penya.
The Tigers with Dave Jauss are crowned (5-2) in 1999 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Eagles in 2001 (4-2), with Félix Fermín in Culiacán / Mexico; again with Fermín at the top they win in Carolina, Puerto Rico (6-1) in 2003; in 2004 the Tigers win (5-1) in Santo Domingo, led by Manny Acta and the Eagles repeat with Fermín in Carolina 4-2, in 2007, for their last crown in the Caribbean Series.
In 2008 Dominican repeats with the Tigers (5-1) in Santiago and Hector de la Cruz leading; 2010 the Lions win (5-1), with Ken Oberkfell, in Isla Margarita / Venezuela; again the hairy ones with Oberkfell, take the crown to Santo Domingo in 2012; of the Bulls of the East closes the circle of winners by Quisqueya, with its triumph in version 2020, celebrated with new format in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and with the Puerto Rican Linen Rivera directing, obtain record of 6-1 , to complete a cycle where they won every facet in this year’s winter ball.
In the Dominican Republic they reached the regular round first, round robin until beating the Tigers in the final and were crowned in the Caribbean classic.
