A health worker has died in Telangana, the third such case, just days after taking the Covid-19 vaccine, although health authorities maintained that the mortality was not due to vaccination.
The 55-year-old woman from Mancherial district received the vaccine dose at Kasipet Primary Health Center on January 19, but only complained of shortness of breath and dizziness on January 29, officials said on Sunday.
According to the director of public health, Dr. G Srinivas Rao, he was admitted to Medcherife Hospital in Mancherial. On January 30, she was transferred to the Institute of Medical Sciences (NIM) in Nizam, Hyderabad, where she succumbed around 11 p.m.
“The cause of death is clearly indicative of underlying morbidities and not due to vaccination against Covid. Death was caused by cardiorespiratory arrest caused by multiple morbidities such as kyphoscoliosis with restricted lung disease, respiratory infection with type 2 respiratory failure, hypertension accelerated arterial with left ventricular failure, ”Rao said.
Since vaccination began on Jan. 16, health officials said, those three deaths were unrelated to the vaccine.
Interestingly, all three had been vaccinated on the same day, but in different parts of the state.
In the first incident, a 42-year-old male health worker who had been shot on January 19 died the next day. He was given the vaccine at Kuntala Primary Health Center in Nirmal district.
He suffered chest pain and was taken to Nirmal District Hospital in the early hours of January 20th.
In the second case, a 45-year-old health worker who was vaccinated on January 19 at a primary health center in the urban district of Warangal died on January 24.
To date, Telangana has vaccinated 1,68,589 health workers. According to health officials, 57% of the target beneficiaries have been given the vaccine.
