The average seven-day daily COVID-19 case continues to decline.

The Utah Department of Health reported Sunday that the trend of positive tests stands at 1,464 daily. That number is slightly lower than just a week ago, when the seven-day average of positive cases was 1,794. The previous week, there were 2,548.

Another positive trend lies in the number of coronavirus cases that UDOH considers “unrecovered” in the previous two weeks. At the beginning of the year, the number of unrecovered cases was around 50,000. But over the past two days, there have been fewer than 40,000.

This trend, along with the seven-day average of daily cases, indicates that Utah sees fewer people with COVID-19.

In Salt Lake County, the seven-day average of daily cases stood at 491.14. It is the first time since Oct. 14 that the rotating average has fallen below 500 in the county.

The following are the figures reported on Sunday:

Vaccines reported in total / last day vaccinations • 10,176 / 310,692.

Cases reported last day • 1,194.

Deaths reported last day • Two.

The two people who died as a result of COVID-19 were an 85-year-old Iron Country woman and a 45- to 64-year-old Weber County man.

Hospitalizations reported last day • 41. It went down Saturday 17th. Of the 413 people currently hospitalized, 131 are in intensive care units, eight fewer than on Saturday.

Although general hospitalizations have decreased, the number of people hospitalized because they may have COVID-19 has increased. UDOH reported that as of Sunday, 106 people who show symptoms of COVID but have not tested positive are currently hospitalized. That exceeds Saturday’s 92.

Tests reported last day • 6,472.

Percentage of positive tests • 18.4%. This is above the seven-day average of 16.9%.

Total so far • 346,624 cases; 1,665 dead; 13,468 hospitalizations; 2,024,647 tests.
