The PS5 custom front panel manufacturer shows a simple montage in a new video

PlayStation 5 owners have no option to change the faces of the console right now, but that could change in the near future thanks to the red, black, and blue options in CMP Shells. Previously sold through the “Platestation.com” website, the third-party maker was forced to cancel pre-orders in November, citing the threat of legal action from Sony. However, the company has applied for a patent for its design and will apparently be able to sell these faceplates without fear of legal action. According to the CMP website, their faces have a slightly different design than Sony’s, which also offers superior ventilation.

Below you can find an Instagram video of the CMP Shells faceplates being trimmed on the PS5.

From the video, it looks like the faceplates should be fairly easy to trim. The company allows players to select from boards compatible with the digital and physical version of the console. Customers have additional options in addition to the front plate covers, including skins that allow them to change the color of the centerpiece and controller.

Only 1,000 units of each shell will be offered and can be purchased for $ 49.99. Fans who want to match the controller to the console can get a look of the controller as part of a package that includes the casings and a strip of medium-sized vinyl piece for $ 69.99. Medium-piece strips are also sold separately for $ 15, so buyers can combine them if they wish. You can find more information on the company’s website right here.

It will be interesting to see if the legal issues have been completely resolved or not. CMP Shells seems very confident that Sony will not be able to prevent faceplates from selling out this time and expects them to start shipping in late February. It remains to be seen whether or not Sony is proposing an official option to replace the PS5’s faceplates, but it looks like in this case it could have been outdated. Those interested in buying the shells will have to keep their fingers crossed for everything to go as planned this time.
