Actor Dustin Diamond has died today at the age of 44, after being diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago.
The remembered ‘Screech’ from the series “Saved by the bell” had been hospitalized on learning that he was in an advanced stage of the disease.
The news has been confirmed by US media The Hollywood Reporter and Variety.
“Dustin did not suffer. He did not have to be immersed in pain. For that, we are grateful,” actor’s spokesman Roger Paul said in a statement.

“Saved by the Bell” was issued from 1989 to 1993, and its derivatives included “Saved by the Bell: The College Years,” “Good Morning, Miss Bell,” and “Saved by the Bell: The New Class.” in which Diamond starred last fall in a Peacock sequel with many members of the original cast, including Elizabeth Berkley, Mario Lopez, Tiffani Thiessen and Mark-Paul Gosselaar.
He starred in a handful of reality TV series, including the fifth season of “Celebrity Fit Club,” “The Weakest Link” and “Celebrity Boxing 2.” In December 2013, Diamond appeared in an episode of “Where Are They Now?” The OWN. and became a member of the house in season 12 of “Celebrity Big Brother.”
