Bradley Beal and Westbrook stopped Durant and the Nets

Washington. Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook scored triples in a stunning 3.8-second sequence at the close of the game to lead the Washington Wizards to surprise Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets with a 149-146 win Sunday.

Westbrook finished with 41 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, while Beal – the NBA’s leading scorer – contributed 37 points. In the fourth period, Beal added 22 points and Westbrook 15. Durant, second on the league’s scoring list, also scored 37 goals.

With Washington down 146-141, Beal connected a triple 8.1 seconds from the end. Garrison Matthews deflected a pass from Joe Harris to Westbrook and he hit another triple with 4.3 seconds remaining to put the Wizards ahead 147-146.

Kyrie Irving found Timothe Luwawu-Carbarrot under a basket to take the lead with 2.9 but the shot went wide. Beal added two free throws at 0.7 seconds for the Wizards to break a four-run streak in a row and improve their record to 4-12, the worst in the NBA.

Harris had the best offensive contribution of his career with 30 points, and Irving has added 26 for the Brooklyn cause. The Nets had won four games in a row.

James Harden was sidelined due to a thigh contusion, the first game he has not played in since he was moved from Houston to Brooklyn on Jan. 13.

Westbrook has set season highs in successive games. It arrived at the encounter dividing equally 18,9 points, his lower level from his second season in the league, in 2009-10.

The Wizards have been 1-4 since they resumed their games after a 13-day hiatus that included six postponements for issues related to COVID-19.
