Florida’s new website allows people to “get online” virtually for COVID-19 vaccines

ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida on Friday launched a new statewide website to streamline the state’s focus on COVID-19 vaccine distribution, following the slow deployment of a statewide hotline at the beginning of the month.

The website, myvaccine.fl.gov, allows full-time, part-time Florida residents to register for the coveted vaccines in 67 counties, placing them in a virtual queue until more doses are available in their area.

“Pre-register now to get the COVID-19 vaccine,” the website says. “We urge currently eligible Florida residents to save their place in the queue by pre-registering today.”

Currently, the state vaccinates people 65 years or older, staff and residents of long-term care facilities, health personnel with direct contact with patients and people extremely vulnerable to the virus.

“This website will proactively contact people who meet the requirements to receive the COVID-19 vaccine when vaccine appointments are available at state-supported vaccination sites,” the Health Department’s press release read. Florida.

Vaccine supply remains limited and appointments may not be available for several weeks in some counties, the DOH warns.

Users will select their county and press “get online” before filling out personal information to register. Once appointments are available, people will be contacted by phone, text or email to schedule an appointment, according to the DOH.

On Friday, the DOH said that as part of the state registration system, each of Florida’s 67 counties has a designated phone number to call and pre-register. The full list of numbers is available here.

Broward, Duval, Hillsborough and Lee counties began using a Florida Department of Health hotline to book vaccine appointments following a promise from the Florida director of emergency management that a statewide dating system.

However, the hotline and state website may not be the best way to sign up for the local health inventions department.

Volusia County, for example, is still in preliminary discussions with the state about the system, but has not started using the platform. Volusia County Emergency Management officials encourage people to continue registering through the county portal.

“Currently, people who register to get an appointment through MyVaccine (myvaccine.fl.gov) are placed in a queue that is not managed by Volusia County and will not be contacted to get an appointment,” he said. the emergency direction of Volusia county in an update Friday. “People who want to receive a vaccine through Volusia County should continue to register through Eventbrite or by calling the Citizen Information Center as additional vaccination events are announced.”

It is unclear how this new system operated by Sharecare software will match counties that do not use the state registration number. Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said Jan. 22 that the county will continue to use CDR Health to sign up for appointments and that it does not yet plan to use the state system for the Orange County Convention Center.

Florida Emergency Management Division press secretary Samantha Bequer said it’s an individual choice if someone enrolls with the statewide pre-enrollment system.

“If a county has an established system and decides to use the state system, the state will work with them to merge existing waiting lists,” Bequer said in an email. “In counties where they have opted for the system, eligible people will be contacted to schedule an appointment when they are available in the area through the state system.

He said Florida is working with counties to make sure existing registration systems can be coordinated with the MyVaccine website.
