KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Top receiver Sammy Watkins said he is optimistic about playing in the Super Bowl LV on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after missing the previous two playoff games due to a calf injury.
“I feel really good,” Watkins said Tuesday. “Continuing to work with training staff and [athletic trainer Rick Burkholder], simply going over everything so I can have a chance and possibly get out there and feel 100% or 95% or 85%, wherever I get on Sunday. I feel pretty good, very optimistic. I’ve had good practices. “
Watkins also missed six games during the regular season. He was fifth in the Chiefs with 37 receptions, 421 yards and two touchdowns.
In the final season of his contract, Watkins said he would listen if the team wanted to re-sign him because he values winning and playing in the Super Bowls for personal stats and money.
“I’d say we win this Super Bowl and we’ll see where my boss will be,” Watkins said. “It would definitely be something to think about. It would definitely be something I would talk about with my wife and kids, to think about coming back. Would I love a third ring? Sure.
“I definitely wouldn’t say no. Go back and win a third? Yes. I don’t care. I should definitely sit down and think about it, see what my future holds.”
