COVID-19 San Diego County Update – 2-2-2021 | News

Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Human Services and Health Agency with data up to February 1, 2021.

Status metrics:

  • The adjusted case rate calculated by the state of San Diego County is currently 42.5 cases per 100,000 residents and the region is at the Purple or Tier 1 level.
  • The positive test percentage is 10.5%, placing the county at level 1 or purple level.
  • The county health equity metric, which analyzes test positivity for areas with the lowest health conditions, is 14% and is at the purple level or level 1. This metric does not move the counties at more restrictive levels, but is required to advance to a less restrictive level.
  • The California Department of Public Health evaluates counties on a weekly basis. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday, February 9th.

Community configuration outbreaks:

  • Four community outbreaks were confirmed on February 1: three in business environments and one in a distribution warehouse.
  • In the last seven days (January 26 to February 1), 57 outbreaks of the community were confirmed.
  • The number of community outbreaks remains above the trigger of seven or more in seven days.
  • An outbreak of a community environment is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in one environment and in people from different households during the last 14 days.

Tests:

  • On February 1, 9,955 tests were reported in the county and the percentage of new positive cases was 9%.
  • The average percentage of positive 14-day cases is 8%. The target is less than 8.0%.
  • The average daily test for 7 days is 18,691.
  • People at higher risk for COVID-19 with or without symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should get tested. Health care workers and essential workers should also be tested, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or live in communities that are being severely affected. Those who have recently returned from travel are also urged to take the test.

Cases, hospitalizations and ICU admissions:

  • On February 1, 926 cases were reported to the county. The last time a total of less than 1,000 daily cases was on November 29 when 959 cases were reported. The total for the region is now 240,050.
  • 10,255, or 4.3% of all cases, required hospitalization.
  • 1,464 or 0.6% of all cases and 14.3% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

Deaths:

  • On February 1, 10 new deaths were recorded for COVID-19. The total for the region is 2,629.
  • Seven men and three women died between January 17 and 30.
  • Of the ten new deaths reported that day, four people who died were 80 or older, five people were 70 and one person was 60.
  • They all had underlying medical conditions.
