An Alabama father of two who hired the UK variant COVID-19 has lost the battle with the highly contagious virus, his wife says.
Alfonzia Jackson Jr. he started getting sick at Christmas and his symptoms got worse when he started struggling to breathe two weeks ago, his wife Ashley Jackson told The Birmingham News.
Jackson was admitted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham on 22 January and his wife later learned that she tested positive for the UK variant which is spreading rapidly throughout the United States.
On Tuesday she posted on Facebook that her beloved husband died.
“Sir, this day has been tough,” he wrote. “I wouldn’t wish it on anyone, as I said goodbye to my amazing husband. It reminded me of the day I said I did it and we promised to spend the rest of our lives together. “
Medical experts fear that vaccines will be less effective against different strains of the coronavirus, including those in the United Kingdom, South Africa and Brazil.
