United States: Covid vaccine can be obtained in drugstores – USA and Canada – International

Thousands of pharmacies in the United States will be able to start offering covid-19 vaccines starting February 11, as part of efforts to rapidly increase the amount of doses applied to citizens.

The White House response coordinator for covid-19, Jeff Zients, said that due to supply constraints, the program will initially focus on 6,500 pharmacies across the country, but it will eventually expand to 40,000.

“This will make more places available for people to be vaccinated in their communities and is an important component to applying vaccines equitably,” he explained.

The program provides that people make appointments at pharmacies to receive their doses, as the priority group to which they belong becomes eligible for this.

More than 32.2 million injections have been applied so far in the country, with just under 6 million people already receiving the two necessary doses of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, According to official data.

After the initial bottlenecks, states are growing their vaccine administration rate while the federal government is working with manufacturers to try to increase supply.

The Biden government has set itself the goal of administering 150 million doses in its first hundred days, which are met in April.
