“With regret, we inform you that … the assistant chief physician of anesthesiology and resuscitation of the emergency hospital №1, assistant to the department of Omsk State Medical University, doctor of medical sciences Maksimishin Sergey Valentinovich , died suddenly, “the hospital said in a statement, not mentioning any cause of death.
Maximishin did not hold any press sessions at the time of Navalny’s hospitalization. As an assistant chief physician of anesthesiology and resuscitation at the hospital, he was one of the hospital’s greatest physicians.
Leonid Volkov, Navalny’s chief of staff, confirmed that Maximishin was in charge of dealing with the opposition leader. “Sergey Maximishin was the head of department who treated Alexey Navalny and was in charge of his treatment, specifically his medically induced coma,” Volkov told CNN.
“(Maximishim) knew more than anyone about Alexey’s condition, so I can’t rule out the possibility of playing poorly,” he added.
“However, Russia’s health care system is very deficient and it is not uncommon for doctors of his age to die suddenly. I doubt there is any investigation into his death,” Volkov continued.
The Health Minister of the Omsk region said in statements that Maximishin worked at the hospital for 28 years and saved thousands of human lives.
“He brought people back to full reality. We will miss Dr. Maximishin a lot. He left too early and that is why the pain of the loss is especially bitter,” Alexander Murakhovsky said in a statement.
