Mexico City /
With the main aim of promoting football and competition throughout the region, the Concacaf announce this Thursday afternoon that the Champions League of clubs will be played in a different format for the Season 2023-2024.
The idea is that in the last half of 2023 a Group Phase will be played by region, and in the first six months of 2024 the final stage will take place, in a tournament that involves the participation of 50 teams.
The phase and regional classification will be played as follows:
- North America: There will be 20 teams divided into four groups of five clubs each. The first and second places will go directly to the Round of 16, and three will never join this stage, which will come out of a Repechage after the Group Stage.
- Central America: There will also be 20 clubs divided into four groups of five, with the distinction that in this area only four teams will qualify, which will result from the clashes between the top four and second best places.
- Caribbean: In the region 10 teams will participate in two groups of five. The best of each sector will play a key to define the club that will represent them in the Round of 16 of the competition.
In the Final Phase there will be a total of 16 clubs that make it up: 11 from North America, four from Central America and one from the Caribbean. The duels will be in the playoffs directly and the Final will be played in a single match.
