Currently, daily cases of COVID-19 are falling in most of the world and deaths, which had been rising worldwide until the end of January, are also beginning to decline.
The general picture: We can only learn a lot from this 30,000-foot view and the emerging variants have a lot to fear. Also, the cases and deaths had been so high that even after descending from the peak, we are still quite close to the summit.
- But this is the first time since the pandemic began, where cases are falling basically in all regions of the world at once. Globally, virtually the only number increasing is the doses of vaccines administered.
- And in some places, for example, in South Asia, there is a growing confidence that the worst of the pandemic may end even before vaccines are widely available.
Our thought bubble: Optimism has not aged well during this pandemic, and this graph could look very different in a few weeks.
