The revelation of the Ford Raptor 2021 it has made me realize that American pickup truck ads and videos are often shot and edited almost exactly like a horror movie. This clip of the new off-road van booting through the clouds of dust shooting up as its 3.5-liter V6 rumbles is almost as intimidating as the most popular horror.
Imagine yourself trapped in the desert. First you feel the exhaust, then you mix more engine, but all you see is a cloud. Don’t be fooled, don’t look Tremors 6, or any other sequel they are now. Instead, it’s causing you the terrifying roar of some egg heads blowing up the planet with their 2021 Ford Raptor.
Ford also announced that the next-generation Raptor will get a production V8 engine next year, in a model called the Raptor R. While we wait, an updated version of the 3.5-liter twin-turbo turbo V6 embedded in the current truck they will continue to be sold later this year also in the new model.
In the outgoing truck, the V6 engine produces 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet. of torque, although the updated power figures for both the 2021 V6 model and next year’s V8 will be announced at a later date. Ford announced that the truck has the largest production tire option currently on the pickup market, with 37-inch BF Goodrich rubber tailored if you pay for it.
The new truck also has a completely redesigned rear suspension configuration with a five-link spring suspension instead of the old springs, improving wheel displacement measurements and handling characteristics, and even Ford claims that the new settings help reduce power. It seems like everything works in the video.

Tell me this can’t be a horror movie? A bit of music and maybe some flashbacks to all those sloping frame Raptor trucks that didn’t make the leap, and we’re dedicated to the business.
