Several rumors over the past week have suggested that Apple has been arguing about making Apple cars with Hyundai and Hyundai subsidiary Kia, but those talks have stopped recently, according to reports. Bloomberg.
Apple has also been discussing its Apple Car plans with other automakers, so despite rumors suggesting that Apple is considering a deal with Hyundai / Kia, Apple could establish a deal with another company. Nikkei today said Apple was talking to at least six Japanese carmakers about supply partnerships and manufacturing contributions.
Earlier this week, CNBC said Apple was about to finalize a deal with Kia. Apple’s talks with Hyundai have been known since early January, when Hyundai confirmed that it had held discussions with Apple.
“We understand that Apple is in discussion with a wide variety of global automakers, including Hyundai Motor. Since the discussion is in its infancy, nothing has been decided,” the company said. A few hours later, Hyundai withdrew the statement and removed the reference to Apple.
Hyundai’s announcement and other detailed rumors about Apple’s negotiations with the carmaker have upset Apple. In accordance with Bloomberg, it is unclear if and when talks between Apple and Hyundai could resume, but there are a limited number of car manufacturers that would be able to manufacture vehicles for Apple.
If talks resume, Apple is likely to end up collaborating with Kia to make the “Apple Car” at Kia’s U.S. factory in Georgia.
Apple has some time to sort out its manufacturing and production plans Bloomberg in a previous report, it was said that it will be five to seven years before the “Apple Car” is ready to launch.
