County reports first pediatric death COVID-19 | News

The County Human Services and Health Agency marks another sad milestone in the COVID-19 pandemic, reporting the first local pediatric death. The deceased was a ten-year-old boy with underlying medical conditions.

“Our deepest condolences are to this child’s family and friends,” said Wilma J. Wooten, MD, MPH, county public health officer. “The death of this boy reminds us that this pandemic affects all members of our community, regardless of age, and we must do everything we can to protect each other and curb the spread of the virus.”

Wooten continues to urge San Diegans to do the following:

  • Wash your hands
  • Watch your distance from others
  • Wear a mask
  • When you are sick, stay home and take the test
  • Get vaccinated when it’s your turn

The South Bay Vaccination Clinic is moving

This coming Tuesday, Feb. 9, the county’s Imperial Beach Vaccination Clinic moves from its current location at Imperial Beach City Hall to the Mar Vista High School Gym, located at 505 Elm Avenue. The schedule will remain the same, from Sunday to Thursday, from 9:30 to 15:30 and by appointment.

So far, the county has opened four vaccination superstations and 15 smaller community dispensary points, or PODs. Combined, they have the capacity to vaccinate 20,000 people daily, although vaccine supplies remain limited and not everyone who is eligible to be vaccinated can get an appointment immediately.

“We are asking San Diegans to be patient and get vaccinated as soon as they are eligible and for doses to be available,” Wooten said.
