New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy will hold a joint news session on the coronavirus pandemic on Friday as both states reopen their economies amid a decline in cases.
Both Cuomo and Murphy have taken steps last week to reopen more companies in their states as they continue to roll out doses of Covid-19 vaccines. Last week, Cuomo said New York City restaurants could reopen their limited-capacity indoor dining sections starting Feb. 14.
Cuomo also said the state would take steps to allow the reopening of some venues for wedding ceremonies starting in mid-March.
Meanwhile, Murphy announced Wednesday that New Jersey restaurants could increase their indoor dining activities by 25% to 35% of their capacity. The state will also allow indoor meetings for events, such as weddings and funerals, and indoor performance spaces to take place at 35 percent capacity or with a limit of 150 people, he said. .
New Jersey reports a weekly average of 3,973 cases of Covid-19 daily, while New York reports an average of 9,722 cases per day, down 20% from last week for both states, according to an analysis data collected by CNBC from Johns Hopkins University.
