Sergio Ramos will undergo left knee surgery; will be out for six weeks with Real Madrid

MADRID – Sergio Ramos will have meniscus surgery on his left knee this weekend, according to ESPN. The white captain has made the decision on the recommendation of the medical services of Real Madrid and will be out for a minimum of six weeks.

Ramos was injured early in the season and has been dragging the problem ever since. He could no longer play in the Spanish Super Cup match against Athletic Club, nor in the Copa del Rey match against Alcoyano in which Madrid was eliminated against a Second B team.

Ramos, according to ESPN, has always wanted to avoid the operating room, but the club’s medical services have advised him to stop and recover as soon as possible.

The discharge period is estimated at a minimum of six weeks, depending on the recovery deadlines. Therefore, Ramos would miss the tie against Atalanta and league matches against Huesca, Getafe, Valencia, Valladolid, Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid, with the doubt of being able to arrive in time for the matches against Elche and Celta Vigo.

The injury comes at the most unexpected moment to be immersed in full contract renewal. ESPN reported months ago that the intention of the defense is to renew for Real Madrid, with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City very attentive to the future of Rams. No decision has yet been made on his future, but it is clear that the injury does not help clear up doubts about where the Real Madrid captain will play next season.
