A 26-year-old man died Saturday from injuries sustained by a malfunctioning cannon in a Michigan baby shower, according to a report.
Evan Silva was hit by a metal shrapnel when the cannon, intended to celebrate the occasion, exploded in the house of the municipality of Gaines around seven and a half in the afternoon, MLive.com reported, citing police state.
Silva, who was about 10 feet from the device, was the only baby shower attendant hit by shrapnel.
He was taken to a hospital in Flint, but could not be saved.
Investigators suspect the gunpowder that was loaded into the barrel blew it up.
When successfully fired, the cannon, which was bought at auction by the homeowner, produced a bright flash and a loud bang, according to the report.
The owner fired her several times before Saturday.
