The Association of Journalists of El Salvador condemns the harassment and defamation of which the radio journalist has been the victim by members and the candidate of New Ideas for the mayor of Santa Tecla
Manuel Pacheco, a long-time journalist for Radio YSKL, denounced being the victim of harassment and slander by the candidate for mayor of Santa Tecla for New Ideas, Henry Flores, and other militants of the bureaucracy.
Pacheco reported that on Saturday, when he came to cover a proselytizing event, two women members of New Ideas came out to meet him to take pictures with his camera and cell phones and began to chase him, with the intention of prevent it from being performed.
“I came to cover the New Ideas event today, in the city of Santa Tecla … The two young women immediately saw me, went out to meet me and started taking photos and videos of me. They didn’t they stopped taking pictures of me, I felt harassed, “the journalist said.

After several minutes, he recounted, they kept photographing him and he approached one of them and asked him not to take any more pictures of him. The women stopped for a moment, but then continued to harass.
A few hours later, the New Ideas candidate for mayor of Santa Tecla, Henry Flores, who did not witness the harassment of his party’s militants as a journalist, gave another version of events and made serious remarks against Pacheco .
The journalist points out that, in the first place, Flores did not witness all the “harassment” and “aggressiveness” with which the two women acted against him and how they hindered their journalistic work. To make matters worse, Flors posted on social media several photos of Pacheco and alleged that he works for a party and that he “threatened” a woman from the pro-government team.
The president of the Association of Journalists of El Salvador (APES), Angèlica Cárcamo, stated that the union has investigated and taken the journalist’s account, so she expresses her concern about these facts.
“We are concerned that a candidate from a political party is engaged in accusing a journalist, without having evidence that the journalist has accused two of his supporters; if there is no evidence, this is defamation and a crime,” he warned. .
