“I asked them to win, not abuse”

The President of the Dominican Republic Luis Abinader received this Tuesday the national and Caribbean Series champions, Águilas Cibaeñas, in an activity held in the Hall of Ambassadors of the National Palace.

“I asked them to win, not abuse. Today we received them full of pride and very grateful for the role they played in Mazatlán, Mexico,” Abinader said.

And he added: “Winning seven games of seven is not easy and we are proud of you … also during these days they helped us get the politics out of the networks.”

He also congratulated Joan Lagares for winning the Most Valuable Player award for connecting two homers and towing eight runs and for members of the Caribbean Series All-Star team: Lagares, Ronald Guzmán, Robinson Canó, Melky Cabrera, Carles Martínez, Jumbo Díaz and the leader Félix Fermín.

“I’ve never hidden that I’m from the Eagles, they represented us all well,” Abinader added.

The Eagles (7-0) won the Caribbean Series undefeated, defeating Puerto Rico in the final game, to win the 21st crown in the country’s history and the sixth as a club for the team of Santiago of the Horsemen.

“This is a very special day, there are days that mark the heart and this is special. The players are the great heroes and for those we are celebrating today,” said Minister Camacho.

The 2022 Caribbean Series will be held in the Dominican Republic, the Caribbean Baseball Confederation reported Sunday.

“This event will have the absolute and full support of Dominican government institutions,” Abinader said.

The president of the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic, Vitelio Mejía again thanked the government support for the assembly of the Dominican championship.

“President, we promised him the crown and we fulfilled him. Now it is good that he gets more space at different tables so that he will receive us in the future with other trophies,” Mejia said.

He also announced that he is working alongside the Dominican Baseball Federation to set up a summer league for the enjoyment of Dominican fans.
