Few things about the PlayStation 5 are better than that the DualSense driver. It feels great to hold it, somehow as solid as it is light. The haptics are really dynamic, at least for games that offer of support. It is beautiful. But even the powerful DualSense isn’t immune to the Achilles heel of modern video game controllers: drift.

When you think of driver drift, your mind is probably headed for Nintendo Switch. Almost immediately after the hybrid console launched in 2017, unfortunate gamers came to know the dreaded term “Joy-Con drift”. In other words, the control paddles would not normally work by sending fake entries to the console, even when players did not touch them. In 2019, Nintendo recognized the number in a comment a Kotaku, and announced a new policy that offered free repairs to affected homeowners and granted refunds for previous repairs. Last year, Nintendo president he formally apologized for the whole debacle (but he didn’t say a word about it this dress of collective action).

Now, PS5 owners report similar issues with DualSense.

Since the PS5 was released last November, gamers have been on social media To share stories About DualSense operation. A user reported the problem ten days after receiving your PS5, claiming that they had tried every possible solution: turn on the console, turn Bluetooth on and off, reset the driver, and finally fully charge it overnight, to no avail.

Another has uploaded a video on Reddit that seems to show a serious drift from the driver. In the 15-second clip, the palette player’s fingers can be clearly seen while playing Destiny 2. And yet, the player’s weapon — a fun side armor that closely resembles Lonesome, a legendary weapon with a fantastic rate of fire and a serious punch — moves by itself across the screen. Yes, Beyond lightEurope has stunning views, but is best enjoyed when you’re really in control.

At the moment, your options for fixing a bursting DualSense are scarce. You can visit the Sony PlayStation support page, which has a dedicated portal for problems with the PS5 hardware, including the DualSense driver. Note that the PlayStation support team is flooded at the moment with sending requests on the PS5, which is still almost impossible to find.

When I tried to attend, I was told to contact a customer service agent via the contact page for PlayStation support. In a conversation about instant messaging, an agent told me to call 1-800-345-7669 and press 1 for PS5. I did and listened, jokingly, to a dozen different previously recorded messages informing me that PlayStation support is no the place to find out about finding a PS5. Then they kicked me to hold it. On the positive side, the soundtrack was by Gustavo Santaolalla deliciously twangy The last of us theme. On the non-positive side, I had to listen to it for 17 minutes. As always, PlayStation support remains a Byzantine maze of conflicting emotions.

Once I reached a person, I was told that the DualSense warranty derives. However, you will have to pay to send the driver to a Sony repair center (a cost that varies depending on several factors, including the location and total weight of the package), but apparently Sony covers the return shipping. What you pay for the first shipping label will not be refunded.

Theoretically, the ability to adjust the dead zone of a system-level controller could offer a burn, at least in a manner similar to a bullet wound. The latest DualSense update, 0210, did not add this compatibility. The latest firmware version of the PS5 was also not updated. It is unclear whether future PS5 updates will add this support.

Kotaku he contacted Sony for comment, but at the time of the press, he had not received a response.

The PlayStation 5 has been out for less than three months. All the guesswork as to whether or not the “DualSense drift” will become the next “Joy-Con drift,” causing from a wave of customer buzz to an apology from the executive years behind, or it will disappear. At the very least, hopefully, this issue will be paid off before a vampire law firm smells blood and starts another class action.
