Kansas City Chief Assistant Coach Britt Reid left administrative leave amid accident investigation

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City bosses left Britt Reid, offside coach, in administrative play after last week’s three-car crash that left a 5-year-old girl in critical condition.

“We are still in the process of gathering information about the incident and will continue to assist local authorities as requested,” the chiefs said in a statement. “Our focus remains with Ariel Young and her family. We have contacted the family to offer them our support and resources at this difficult time and we will continue to pray for their recovery.”

Reid, 35, the son of head coach Andy Reid, acknowledged to police that he was driving the vehicle that collided with two other cars, including the one the 5-year-old had inside. The police report said the driver of this vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was being investigated for possible damage.

Andy Reid said this week that Britt Reid had surgery but was not more specific.

A Kansas City police department official said Britt Reid’s eyes were injected with blood and the officer smelled “moderate in alcohol,” according to a statement from a police officer obtained by ESPN. The statement stated that Reid told the agent that he was taking two to three drinks and that he was also taking Adderall’s prescription.

Britt Reid did not travel to Tampa, Florida, for the recent Super Bowl and did not coach the Chiefs in their 31-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
