A three-team trade between the Red Sox, Royals and Mets that would send Andrew Benintendi football field to Kansas City is about to end, sources told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. The clubs have not confirmed the transfer, which is pending medical attention and approval.
If the deal is completed, the Red Sox will receive Franchy Cordero and at least one Mets player, who would regain potential offside Khalil Lee, sources told Feinsand.
Benintendi, 26, only appeared in 14 games last season after suffering a chest injury, but was a runner-up in the AL Rookie of the Year in 2017, when he dropped .271 / .352 / .424 with 20 homemakers. He has a career of 107 OPS + in five seasons with the Red Sox, who won a World Series with Benintendi as a left-back in 2018.
