A former veteran quarterback for the New York Giants now has a coaching job at the Philadelphia Eagles.
No, it’s not Eli Manning.
Two days after quarterback Alex Tanney, 33, retired from the Giants, he returned to the NFL as the Eagles ’quality control coach.
Although Tanney played only two games in the NFL, he had a nine-year career in the league, often taking on a mentoring role for younger players. He was new to the Chiefs in 2012, when new Eagles coach Nick Sirianni was the receivers coach.
The moment Tanney signed on the field was when he replaced Manning in the fourth quarter of a win on December 15, 2019, Manning’s last start and appearance in his 16-year career with Big Blue.
Tanney will work directly with new offensive coordinator Shane Steichen, who was at the helm of the Los Angeles Chargers offensive last season. Steichen also worked alongside Sirianni when the two were part of the Chargers coaching staff a few years ago. Sirianni was the Colts’ offensive coordinator for the past three seasons before he was named head coach of the Eagles.
It is unknown whether Jaylen Hurts or Carson Wentz will be Sirianni’s starting quarterback. According to reports, the Eagles have been pushing hard to change Wentz, but have not received any offers of his liking.
