Marwin González signs with the Red Sox

the Boston Red Sox they have reached an agreement with veteran free agent Marwin González, according to renowned journalist Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. It’s a one-year pact for $ 3MM with over $ 1mm in incentives. This pact will bring González together with the Red Sox manager, Alex Cora, Who was Houston’s banking coach during González’s best season in 2017.

Venezuelan Gonzalez played with the Stars from 2012 to 2018, and although it took a couple of years for his offense to recover, he became a solid producer on the plate for the club in recent years. The ambidextrous racked up 2,000 265 appearances on the plate as the 2014-18 Astre and beat 271/328/438 (111 WRC +) with 70 homers. He also lined up in all positions except pitcher and receiver while with the Stars.

Gonzalez, 31, took advantage of his total success with the Stars on a two-year, $ 21mm contract with the Twins starting in 2019. He continued to provide impressive defensive flexibility in Minnesota, coming out on the field in all his former places except in the central garden, but his offense vanished. The 1.85-meter-tall, 92-pound player concluded his tenure in the Twins with an unsatisfactory line of 248/311/387 (85 WRC +) and 20 homers on 662 trips to the plate.

Although he did not produce as much as expected as a Twin, it is no surprise that Gonzalez has aroused the interest of several teams in this period of free agency. The Tiles, one of Boston’s division rivals, were also among the teams fighting for him, according to Feinsand.

Like the new Red Sox utility, Enrique Hernández, González plans to play all the diamond for the club. That should include the Gardens, as the Red Sox traded one of their former starters, Andrew Benintendi, last Wednesday.
