Nintendo Switch Concierge is a new service that allows console owners to learn more about their system. Switch owners can schedule an appointment with Nintendo representatives through Microsoft Teams to discuss various potential topics, such as personalization, games to play, security and privacy, and more. The service “is only open to those who have recently purchased a Nintendo Switch system,” although Nintendo has not offered any specific windows. However, it’s interesting to see Nintendo use Microsoft technology for such services, and it’s just one more indication of how the relationship between the two companies has grown since Microsoft first entered the console business.
Those interested in consulting the Nintendo Switch concierge service should note that there are some restrictions. Users must be over the age of 18 and are limited to one session per person. Nintendo also reserves the right to collect videos “of you, your voice and your environment to interact with you, answer your questions, and allow Nintendo to provide you with the requested service.” The service is completely free.
While the concierge service would not be possible without Microsoft, the concept has something intrinsically similar to Nintendo; after all, this is the same company that created things like the Nintendo Power Line. Nintendo Switch Concierge seems like a spiritual evolution of this kind of concept, though gamers are unlikely to receive any real advice on games. Still, the idea of getting help from Nintendo directly from the company is almost as old as the NES. Since Switch is currently performing well for Nintendo, it only makes sense for the company to look for ways to welcome newcomers.
It will be interesting to see if new users accept the option or not and what utility will end up resulting! No doubt there are many promises in the concept, but it remains to be seen how it will work in practice. Many users may not be comfortable talking to a company representative and the recording concept may turn off others.
Readers can learn more about the service and how to schedule an appointment by visiting Nintendo’s official website here.
