Postmaster General Louis DeJoy plans to eliminate two-day local delivery for first-class mail, incorporating it into three- to five-day postal service envelopes and banning first-class mail delivered by air. The Washington Post reports. Currently, only 38 percent of first-class two-day mail is delivered on time, according to federal court office statements, and the agency is financially underwater as it lost $ 9.2 billion of dollars last year due to a decline in mail during the coronavirus pandemic and nearly $ 200 billion in debt. DeJoy’s plan would likely lead to further delays and he also plans to introduce price hikes. DeJoy told the Publication the plan had not been completed.
