NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WTVF): As of Friday, people can get COVID-19 vaccines at certain Walmart pharmacies in Tennessee.
This is part of a new federal retail pharmacy program to get the vaccine out faster and 121 Walmart pharmacies will be part of the program.
These vaccines will be free, but by appointment only. It will be based on the phase of the distribution process your county is in; for example, in Davidson County, people 70 and older can now start dating to get theirs. Click here to make an appointment.
“When we look at geographic distribution across the state, there are 150 Walmarts in almost every county,” said Dr. Lisa Piercey, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Health. “Particularly in our anguish [and] in our rural counties, they are much more likely to have Walmart than the other pharmacies in the chain. “
Dr. Piercey said 30 more Walmart pharmacies in the state should start vaccinating in the coming weeks. He said two-thirds of the population over the age of 70 are not yet vaccinated.
These vaccines are in addition to those already received by the state. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) worked with states to choose different pharmacies and was selected based on several things, such as their ability to reach people at higher risk for real disease from COVID. -19.
