North Carolina returns to the track after an unexpected week off with a trip to the ACC driving Virginia.
The Tar Heels beat Duke by four last Saturday night, winning for the fourth time in five games. Carolina was then scheduled to play Miami on Monday night, but several players and team executives gathered to celebrate after Duke’s victory. However, people from outside the team bubble attended and the video of the event appeared.
Faced with the possibility that someone on Tar Heel’s team had been exposed to COVID, and with less than 48 hours of investment, Miami felt uncomfortable going ahead with Monday’s game and postponed it.
The Tar Heels have no one quarantined or suspended. Coach Roy Williams said the discipline of the incident was “internal” and “appropriate” and that the Tar Heels would have all the strength of the game in Virginia.
The Heels will have to be in their game to stay with the Cavaliers, who have fled after an unstable 4-2 start to the year. Virginia has won 10 of 11 games and leads the ACC with a 10-1 and a 14-3 overall.
Carolina has struggled to defend all three this season and Virginia is the eighth most accurate three-point shooting team in the country. Roy Williams said his senior men should come out on the arc to defend the perimeter against senior UVA men, Jay Huff and Sam Hauser, who both surpassed 42% of three.
