Brown criticized Republican colleagues who characterized him for having approached Trump’s impeachment trial with his mind closed despite the “damage he has done to his country.”
“It is clear that this president abused his power. It is so clear that it incited violence, ”he said. “And my colleagues just refuse to see it because of their abject fear of Donald Trump.”

Speaking to Capitol reporters ahead of Saturday’s impeachment proceedings, Brown said he was unsure whether calling witnesses would change the minds of Republicans who have already decided to acquit Trump.
“They know he incited violence,” he said. “But the fear they have of this president campaigning against them: I’ve never seen the fear of doing that. It can be seen in their eyes.”
“I’m incredulous,” Brown added. “I am in disbelief, except that I have seen four companions without thorns walk in fear in their eyes for four years. And so maybe I shouldn’t be surprised. “
Brown later joined the 50 Senate Democrats and five Republican Party members in voting in favor of calling for witnesses and citing documents in Trump’s impeachment trial.
