Minor dies strangled in Chalatenango during apparent cell phone theft | El Salvador News

It transpired that Roberto Carlos Gutiérrez, the suspect, was convicted in 2013 of raping a minor, and was released in 2019.

Roberto Carlos Gutiérrez, 40, who is the main suspect in beating and strangling a 12-year-old teenager to death, was captured by police in the municipality of Aigua Calenta, Chalatenango.

The arrest of the suspect was executed yesterday. The brutal crime would have been committed in Nova Concepción, always Chalatenango.

Early police investigations indicate that Gutierrez intercepted the child as he was heading to shop at a local store, at which point he threw him to the ground, hit him and strangled him. It would all be related to the theft of a cell phone that was owned by the minor.

After the attack, neighbors assisted the minor, tried to take him to Rosales Hospital in San Salvador, but he died on the way.
