Honduras is close to 160,000 covid-19 infections and has killed 3,857

Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Honduras brushed off 160,000 covid-19 infections on Saturday, while deaths from the disease add up to 3,857 in 11 months of pandemic, according to the daily record of the state’s National Risk Management System (Sinager).

The body has indicated in a statement that of 2,327 new laboratory tests 764 tested positive, so that the number ofand contagion rose to 159,788.

Nine deaths in the last hours make a total of 3,857 since the pandemic began to spread to the Central American country, in March 2020.

The official report adds that 998 Hondurans are hospitalized for contracting the disease, of which 599 have a stable clinical picture, 345 are serious and 54 remain in intensive care units.

In addition, according to the health entity, 17 new patients have recovered, with which there are already 63,170 patients treated.

The departments of Cortés, in the north of the country, and Francisco Morazán, in the center, where is located the Honduran capital, Tegucigalpa, remain the main epicenters of the pandemic, which in January and February has had a high incidence of infections and deaths.

Medical sources who are at the forefront of the fight against the pandemic say that the figures for the Sinager remain short and that the death toll could add up to about 10,000, an opinion that coincides with that of the directors of the Honduran Funeral Home Association.

Given the high incidence of infections and deaths from covid-19 so far this year, the College of Microbiologists of Honduras has today recommended to health authorities a total confinement for two weekends.

“We have made a proposal, that at least about two weekends be closed all over the country, if you can not leave by identity number,” said the spokeswoman for the microbiologists, Miriam Aguilera.

He added that immediate action should be taken and to ensure that there are no meetings of any kind.

In addition, according to microbiologists, there should be more budget to deal with the pandemic and open more care centers, because the positivity of infections and deaths is high.
