Oakland Athletics reinforces the bullring, reaching agreements with Yusmeiro Petit and Sergio Romo

OAKLAND, Calif. – Veteran reliever Yusmeiro Petit has agreed to a $ 2.55 million one-year contract to stay with Oakland Athletics, waiting for a physicist, his agent said.

The deal could pay the Little Right-Winger up to $ 3 million based on incentives for the games presented, Agent Rafael Godoy said Sunday night.

“He’s excited to be back. It was his first choice of all time,” Godoy told the AP via text message. “The team had been in touch all winter.”

Also on Sunday, Oakland closed a $ 2.25 million one-year deal with veteran relay Sergio Romo, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Also a physicist has yet to pass.

The two additions for current AL West champions would provide significant experience to manager Bob Melvin’s bullpen, who lost closer to Liam Hendriks as a free agent for the Chicago White Sox. Petit and Romo have 13 years of experience in major leagues, and both pitchers know a lot that the Bay Area has also played for the San Francisco Giants.

Petit, 36, will return for the fourth season to Oakland, having gone 2-1 with a 1.66 ERA in 26 outings and 21⅔ innings during the reduced 60-game 2020 season. He is versatile given his ability to throw multiple entries.

Romo, who turns 37 on March 4, had 1-2 with an ERA of 4.05 and five stops and 23 stops in 24 games and 20 innings last year in Minnesota.

A pitchers and catchers were due to show up Tuesday at the club’s spring training facility in Mesa, Arizona. The first training is on Wednesday. Oakland has reached the playoffs each of the past three years, losing the AL Wildcard game in 2018 and 19 and then in a four-game AL Division draw to rival Houston Astros last year, but has faced to a check for a quiet low season.

Athletic were the first to report on Romo’s pending signing.
