I played Bowser’s Fury this weekend. I intended to save it until I had finished my first test with the Switch remake Super Mario 3D World, having, like most humans, never had a Wii U. But boy did I get bored quickly. And there was Bowser, just waiting on the launch screen, tempting me with his glow. It turns out, that is what I would love to see Nintendo do much more.

Clearly everyone wants Nintendo to do so much more. More METROID PLEASE CALL PHOTOS. But what this 3D-sized platformer game shows is another side of Nintendo that they haven’t really revealed before: brevity.

I was initially disappointed when I read this Fury it was going to be significantly shorter than the kind of 3D words we’re used to at Nintendo. Super Mario Odyssey he is three and a half years old! I am very impatient! But when I started playing, that disappointed and disappointed me 3D world a) it’s not a 3D world, and b) it seems like a review of every other 2D Mario I’ve ever played thank you enough, I realized, “Oh God, that’s manageable“.

I haven’t finished so many Nintendo games. I know, I know, Here I am the bad person. But the reality is, I’ve never seen the ending Breath Of The Wild, you will almost never find time to finish the second test Odyssey, and goodness knows when I will ever get to the time of polishing 64, Ground i galaxy, now I bought them again. But I have completed it the first play through Bowser’s Fury for a busy weekend with kids climbing everywhere me everywhere. I’m already a good way to get into the second batch of Cat Shines. And basically it was as good as you expect from Nintendo.

In fact, it is a surprisingly clever reinterpretation of the eight-year-old 32World D, hugging all her little feline idiosyncrasy and reinvent them as appropriate Mario 3D game. And while Bowser’s moments of fury are too fast and too fast, to the point of abject irritation at the end, he does so many, so many great things with all the experience you’ll expect, only in a much longer time. short.

It’s true that my satisfaction levels are a bit altered by price. $ 60 (or £ 50) is a lot of money. Yeh, sure, I have it 2.5D world step on eventually. But my expected price for ten-year-old games is close to the $ 10 range and 50 for Bonus Bowser definitely feels too much. This has the DLC vibe, though it’s not content that fits to any previous game. Is it like that Odyssey in spirit, 3D world in motives, but it doesn’t really fit perfectly into either.

I’m thrilled with the fun I’ve had though, and the fun I still have, I have, I have to have. And most of all, it made me want a Nintendo that sees projects like this as something viable for its future. I can imagine games like Bowser’s Fury launching as offers only for downloads, without having the weight of the expectation of a box office release of a new release of Mario, but making room for experimental, imaginative and equally delicious games for a bit less than money.

There must be so many Mario ideas stuck on the boards of Nintendo offices, that they are thought too strange or too temporary to get to the next big game. It would be the most fantastic way to let them into the light, with lower pressure and stake. And for me, well, they would be more games that I know I will have time to finish! That’s no small feat when games are as fun as this one.
