SAINT ANTHONY – Approximately two-thirds of CPS Energy networks will continue to have rotating shutdowns over the next 24 to 48 hours due to unprecedented demand amid freezing conditions that are expected to continue over the next few days, the report said on Monday. officials.
CPS Energy updated the media Monday afternoon, hours after Texas Electric Reliability Council said rotating outages would continue statewide until Tuesday.
Paula Gold-Williams, president and CEO of CPS Energy, said the goal is to try to rotate outages in 15-minute increments. But with high demand, combined with a reduced ability to generate energy due to freezing, he acknowledged that the results have not been consistent.
Some customers have reported longer downtime, with energy returning only a few minutes at a time.

“We’re taking all the information we can and trying to solve problems,” Gold-Williams said.
The bulk of the disruptions experienced by San Antonio residents are due to rotations. Some customers may be out of power for longer due to other factors such as equipment failure, Gold-Williams said. About a third of the grid will continue to have power because some circuits feed critical services, such as a hospital or police department.
Typically, CPS Energy sees the highest energy demand in the summer when the highest temperatures are set. But this ice storm has surpassed demand seen in the summer, Gold-Williams said.
Gold-Williams said crews work 24 hours a day to address issues, but said this scenario is a “very complex process.”
Without continued shutdowns, entire networks would be left offline, leaving them without power indefinitely, Gold-Williams said.
Officials are asking customers to continue to conserve energy when they have energy in an effort to stabilize the system more quickly.
