Leo Brent Bozell IV, a son of right-wing activist L. Brent Bozell III, has been indicted in federal court for his alleged role in the January 6 Capitol uprising.
Bozell IV faces three offenses: disorderly conduct, entry into a restricted building and obstruction of an official proceeding, according to an unsealed complaint on Feb. 16.
Bozell’s father is the founder of the conservative Media Research Center, a self-described group that aims to “expose and neutralize the propaganda arm of the left: the national media.” Its Parents Television Council campaigns to bring “responsibility and decency to the entertainment industry in response to American demand for positive, family-oriented television programs,” and the Culture and Media Institute, which Bozell III founded in 1987, opposes what it claims to be “Liberal Bias” in all American media. Bozell III is frank about his extreme views against abortion, and recently complained on the Fox Business network that all Republicans have been unfairly paved as participants in the riots.
The complaint against Bozell IV, who coached women’s basketball at the Hershey Christian Academy in Pennsylvania, contains screenshots of videos showing him on the Senate balcony, as well as walking down the Senate floor during the Capitol Uprising. He can be seen dressed in a blue sweatshirt with the “Hershey Christian Academy” badge on his chest. At least three separate witnesses watched video on television or on Bozell’s social media participating in the riot and contacted the FBI, according to the complaint.
According to the complaint, the FBI received its first advice on Bozell IV on January 14th. The tipster provided the full name of Bozell IV, along with links to Bozell’s video inside the Capitol, as well as photographs of him leaving the building. The next day, a second person contacted the FBI about a photo they had seen on Bozell IV’s Twitter, followed by additional information gathered on the Hershey Christian Academy’s Facebook page, which revealed the nickname of the coach as “Zeeker.”
Six days later, a concerned third citizen sent a tip through the FBI website that included a photo of Bozell IV and a teenage girl on a basketball court, with a trophy. The tipster said they were “100% positive that Zeeker Bozell” would have been involved in the Capitol revolt.
A few days after the siege of the Capitol, a co-worker showed the tipster a photo of a man coming out of the Capitol building in a blue Hershey Christian Academy sweatshirt. They “immediately identified” Bozell IV as the father of the children who attended Hershey Christian and who had also been the school’s women’s basketball coach until March 2020, “as the team could no longer practice or play. due to the COVID -19 pandemic “.
Bozell IV does not yet have an attorney listed in the court record. A Bozell III spokesman did not respond to a request for comment from The Daily Beast.
