With Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury now available on Nintendo Switch, many new gamers are enjoying the Wii U classic for the first time. The title is known for its combination of Mario 2D and 3D platforms, cats, and a four-player roster of Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad, but it looks like things could have been quite different.
In accordance with @Nickoloxx, who claims to have been “doing some digging” through the Super Mario 3D World files, it seems that Toadette was once planned to be a playable character. Nickoloxx says, “So far I’ve found some traces of it in the player files. It has a voice line to select from and I’ve also found 214 player animations.”
This line of voice can be heard in the shared post below; Nickoloxx points out that while they can get the file to be loaded into the game on the character selection screen, they can’t boot it directly.
So, was Toadette once planned as an additional player option? Players would have been able to choose between the two toads perhaps or would it be added to the Captain Toad levels, as it does in the full game Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker?
Intriguing things.
