A winter storm warning has been issued for parts of New Jersey. A winter weather warning has been issued for New York City, Long Island and other areas near the city.
Snow is expected to start around dawn or just before Thursday.
Moderate to heavy snow is expected during the first part of the storm until Thursday at noon. A snowfall rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour is possible.
There is the potential for a very snowy and difficult Thursday morning.

The best opportunity for 6 inches of snow or more is the interior of New Jersey. An extension of 5 to 9 inches is expected across the Tri-State.
More intense snow is expected to be lost in the north of the city and an icy mix is expected to reduce accumulations further south.
New York City has received almost double the normal seasonal snowfall so far, with nearly 33.8 inches compared to the normal 17.1 inches from Dec. 1 to Feb. 17.
