Detroit residents 60 and older with certain medical conditions can now receive the COVID-19 vaccine

DETROIT – Detroit residents over the age of 60 with certain chronic illnesses can now suffer the COVID-19 vaccine, Mayor Mike Duggan dit.

“Detroit is committed to making vaccines available to all of our most vulnerable residents,” Duggan said. “People with diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure or other chronic conditions have much higher COVID mortality rates than the general population.”

Vaccines will be made at the TCF center, Duggan said. Eligible residents should make an appointment with TCF starting Wednesday before by calling 313-230-0505.

“I’m happy with the governor’s support that we can reduce the age of people with chronic illnesses to 60. I hope in the near future we can lower it again to 55,” the Detroit public health official said. , Denise Fair said.

Appointments will be available as early as this week, depending on the city.

When patients arrive for their appointments, they will be asked to show evidence of their medical condition, such as a note from the health care provider, insurance record, prescription bottle, or any other document that verifies their condition.

Last week, Duggan made it possible for residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their resident caregivers to receive the vaccine. He also announced Major Saturdays – a series of weekend vaccination events for detroiters age 65 and older.

Duggan announced a program to provide $ 2 trips to the TCF center for Detroit residents who did not have their own transportation. This program includes wheelchair accessible vehicles for people with physical disabilities.

Here is an updated list of eligible Detroit residents who can schedule appointments at the TCF Center:

• Food service workers, including supermarkets, restaurants, meat packaging and food and beverage handling to employees living or working in Detroit.

• Security guards and janitors living or working in Detroit.

• Any Detroit resident who is 65 years of age or older (born 1955 or earlier).

• K-12 teachers and support staff and daycare workers.

• S. Post Offices Employees living or working in Detroit.

• Detroit City employees or city-related agencies working from the usual workplace (employees working from home are not eligible at this time).

• State and federal police working in Detroit.

• Members of the clergy interacting with members of their congregation.

• Funeral / Funeral Home employees working in Detroit.

• Paid and unpaid people in healthcare settings who may be directly or indirectly exposed to patients or infectious materials working in Detroit.

• Members of the city’s disabled community.

• Home health care workers living in Detroit.

• Residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their caregivers.

• Residents 60 years of age or older with chronic health conditions.

Vaccines will only be given by appointment.

Workers and residents will not be vaccinated without prior appointment by calling 313-230-0505.

Grocery store employees and security guards who schedule appointments must provide their name, home address, and age.

For greater efficiency and convenience, the city recommends that, when possible, eligible members of the same family or neighbors schedule together and arrive in the same vehicle.

Group B essential workers will need to provide their employer’s name and their most recent salary to verify their eligibility.

Appointments should last approximately one hour after entering the TCF garage.

Anyone scheduling an appointment will receive two appointment dates: one for the first dose and one for the second dose needed.

Call center staff members will contact each scheduled person prior to their second appointment to remind them. Residents will receive specific instructions on when and where to get to the TCF center and where to fill out a basic consent form.

After receiving the vaccines, residents should remain in the vehicle inside the TCF garage for about 15 minutes to make sure they have no side effects. Medical staff members will be at your disposal to help anyone with side effects.
