A winter storm warning has been issued for parts of New Jersey. A winter weather warning has been issued for New York City, Long Island and other areas near the city.
Snow is expected to start around dawn or just before Thursday.
Moderate to heavy snow is expected during the first part of the storm until Thursday at noon. A snowfall rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour is possible.
There is the potential for a very snowy and difficult Thursday morning as the roads will become smooth in a hurry.

The best opportunity for 6 inches of snow or more is the interior of New Jersey. An extension of 5 to 9 inches is expected across the Tri-State.
The heaviest snow is expected to fall between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., and is likely to be missing north of the city. An icy mixture is expected to reduce accumulations further south.
A snowy mix of looser intensity will persist until well into Friday.
New York City has received almost double the normal seasonal snowfall so far, with nearly 33.8 inches compared to the normal 17.1 inches from Dec. 1 to Feb. 17.
