Disney + plans to launch the international ‘Star’ channel for adults with subscribers starting next week

Disney + plans to expand its streaming service offering next week with a launch of its adult Star brand to existing subscribers in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

In accordance with CNET, the Star brand will include content from Disney Television Studios, FX, 20th Century Studios and 20th Television that is more adult-friendly, as opposed to content for all ages currently available on Disney +.

Disney is also reportedly adding parental controls to Star content to prevent children from having unapproved access.

In addition to a long list of family movies and shows, Star will include some original content that is currently only available on Hulu and ABC in the United States, including “Victor,” teen drama “Love,” Detective Program. Big Sky “, animated series” Solar Opposites “and Marvel show” Helstrom “.

Movies like “Can You Forgive Me,” “The Beach” by Danny Boyle, “Gone in 60 Seconds” and “Taken” will appear on Star Service in March and each season of The Golden Girls arrives at Disney + this summer. Disney is also expected to bring more Marvel movies to European subscribers in a year.

February 23 is the date the app will be added to Disney + for existing subscribers in previous regions. European countries targeted for Star content include the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland.

The Star brand and additional content come at a cost, however, as Disney + is gaining prices in these regions. In the UK, the monthly subscription fee will increase from £ 5.99 to £ 7.99, or from £ 59.99 to £ 79.90 a year, with an EU-equivalent increase in euros. However, current subscribers will enjoy a pay freeze until August 23rd.

The cost increase is in line with a $ 1 hike for U.S. subscribers that will take effect on March 26th.
