Michigan quarterback Joe Milton entered his name on the transfer portal on Thursday. The third-year quarterback will have three years of eligibility left, as the NCAA has granted an additional year of eligibility and Milton has yet to wear his red shirt season.
Milton was an ESPN 300 client in the 2018 class, described as raw and in need of time to develop, and played in four games in his first season.
After playing in four games in 2019, Milton was named the start of the 2020 season. He helped drive Michigan to a win against Minnesota in the opening, completing 15 of 22 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown.
He threw 644 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in the next two games, both losses, against Michigan State and Indiana. He was eventually replaced by Cade McNamara, who started the last two games of the season in Michigan.
Michigan made changes to their coaching staff this offseason that would affect the position, separating from quarterbacks coach Ben McDaniels. Head coach Jim Harbaugh now plans to work with the quarterbacks and has also added coach Mike Hart and Ron Bellamy, for the big receivers ’coaches.
The Wolverines will continue to have McNamara on the roster and added ESPN 300 quarterback JJ McCarthy in this 202 cycle. McCarthy is the No. 25 recruiter in the overall standings and the two-threat quarterback in the No. 2 pick.
Milton makes a graduate transfer and will be eligible immediately on any program you choose.
